Am hoping to set a trend: maybe if I consistently update my blog, so will 'Nanda and Daf...::clears throat::
::grins:: Sorry. Not to be annoying. Certainly it took me long enough to comment on Daffodil's song blog, so I suppose fair's fair.
Hm, I really meant for this blog to be a little more profound. ...But then, it's hard to be profound without going a little more private than I really care to. So will attempt to find a balance, or at least to make this blog a little more substantial than oh-look-at-my-quizzes-and-stats-needs-to-shrivel-up-and-die. ...At least I've found a template I'll want to keep for another half-year.
So, yeah, what's new here? Well, it's not profound, but it's news, so I'll relate: Jayj's play got picked by Mr. C as one of the ones in the one-act play competition (though I really do think yours should've gotten in, too, Aneya--don't be too sad...), which's very cool, because that means Jayj gets to help direct it--and I hope cast it, especially since he told me I'd be, quote, "the perfect Ace". ...Ace is basically--oh, gosh, I can't think of who she's supposed to be. She's based on one of the people in Much Ado About Nothing, but it's not Beatrice, it's...it's...
(It's...Mon-ty Py-thon's Flying Cir-cus-s-s-s!)
...ah, nail it, I'll put the name up when I think of it. Anyway, that's who I want to be, and Jay Jei wants me to be her, which is cool.
Then again, this's Mr. C as main director, so that may count for a whole lot of nothing in the end. Besides, I can't be at his informational meeting because I'm already going on an SFE field trip, so that means I may get third pickings in the end--his performing arts class has priority (dang it, I tried to get into that class, as past entries will attest!), then probably the people at the meeting...gah. I smell a bit part. ...But we can always hope.
I love spring--I go out in the morning and I can see, and it's bright and warming, and the air smells just--just--ahh. Lovely. Have been so happy the past few days--they've been so cool on so many levels...
I keep wanting to go play outside, but I have no one to play outside with, and I feel kind of stupid just biking by myself, especially as I'm still not allowed to leave the track. Hm. Make do instead by opening my blinds wide, making my bed, and laying on it to read.
...That's almost as good.

Greetings once again from English seminar--took a couple of the quizzes on Ananda's blog--hope you're not too jealous of my results, 'Nanda; I promise I didn't cheat on either of them--that's what made them cool; I didn't expect the ones I got!

Happy birthday, Daf! You're an adult now! *g*
...Went to her party last night. Was fun, though a combination of an English essay during school, a hyperactive after-school thing, sugar, pizza, caffeine, DDR, singing, laughing, dancing, nerves, and finally swing dancing in circles all contributed to what ended up being rather nasty abdominal conditions, leading me to almost get sick at poor Daffy's house. ...Like I said, Daf, it used to happen all the time--it's a tension thing--I was okay after reading for a bit.
So, yeah, finally relocated and bought (this time) Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" on cassette tape, since I'd always felt rather stupid for passing it up for $3 or whatever the first time (it was only $4 now). Actually, it's a "Best Of" tape, which means there're about eight songs in all, but let's face it--with '70s folk music, even "Best Of" is not award-winning stuff. I mean, it's not terrible or anything, but I'm saying there's a reason I didn't pay the extra money for a CD. ...Hm, FYE should carry "Alice's Restaurant" as a CD single. I'dve paid the four dollars just for that. *g*
...Did enjoy the motorcycle song, however, because this was the extended version, wherein he inserted this ludicrous made-up story about the significance of a pickle showing up in the lyrics ("I don't want a pickle...I just wanna ride my motor-sickle...").
Anyway, yeah, did some PIG, tried to decide what I think of the war in Iraq. ...I was really hoping for a more clear-cut opinion than the one I have, but it ended up a little like this: obviously something should be done for Iraq's people, 'cause it's a minority government poisoning and torturing the masses, and certainly Saddam Hussein is not only a nasty scuzzball (going for those nice creative nouns--?), but also smart enough that he knows how to hide whatever weapons he may have. ...But I don't really like the way we've chosen to go about it. What we could have done here was gotten some UN help to go support the people--maybe support some insurrection of theirs should it occur, or at least get the UN to find more evidence of him torturing his people and go after him for that. I mean, hey, isn't that how Slobodan Milosevic got dealt with eventually? And now he's in jail, about to be tried in the Netherlands for crimes against humanity--this terrifying guy, already barely remembered ("Oh, Milosevic? You mean he's not dead yet?").
But this pre-emptive strike thing is just kind of cruddy. 'Cause, I mean, it's hypocritical. We're going after Iraq for flouting the UN--but the UN charter we signed--legally binding, by the way--prohibits its members to attack another country unless it attacks them first. And they haven't done anything to us. Not yet. ...And I'm really not sure they would have. I mean, look at it this way. Hussein wants to live. He's got places to hide--50 palaces he has to protect himself from his own people--he's constantly moving between them, rarely staying in the same one for two nights in a row. He didn't use any nasty weapons on us during the Gulf War because he knew then--as he knows now--that were he to do anything that screwed with our people, we would promptly turn him into Campbell's Cream of Saddam. ...What's he really gonna do? We don't have to like the guy, but that doesn't give us the right to attack him on some flimsy excuse. I think, given time and vigilance, he'd screw it up for himself somehow--he'dve given us a reason.
But on the other hand, the guy's not stable. He's attacked Iran and all sorts of neighboring places, and goodness knows we could be next. And goodness knows the Middle East could use some democracy. What Russian satellites were to communism, the Middle East is to chaotic, nasty-evil-spit-spewing-people-killing-fundamentalist dictator-people. Yes. Point taken.
So I don't know. I think something should be done, but I don't think it should've been done this way. But I think that now that we're doing it, we might as well finish it. I don't think there should be protests now--they're really kind of pointless now, and they're not what the soldiers should be hearing about. If the war drags on too long without any real good being done, then maybe there'd be something. But for now, Iraqi soldiers are surrendering, targets are being hit without any massive urban fighting--let's try to uncover and get the weapons, then. Let's try to take out Saddam Hussein, then. Let's try to set up a decent government, then.
But I don't like the precedent we're setting. The Iraqi civilians didn't ask for our help. We weren't attacked. ...And Saddam's less direct a threat than al-Qaeda. I don't know why we're shrugging them off now. ...They're the ones we can't scare with the idea of our weapons. They're the ones who aren't afraid to die. ...Saddam is.
I don't know. It's all shades of gray.

Gah. Dermatologist appointment totally sucked. They're losing patience again with the last treatment-that-was-supposed-to-work-but-hasn't, and have put me on some ridiculous herbal thing, looking for a cure for not only the original warts, but all the ones I've gotten in spite of the last treatments. (I should mention here that prescription medication, innumerable laser hits, liquid nitrogen, and cantharone have failed.) ::rolls eyes:: So this new stuff sounds like something else to suck my parents' money to me. ...Maybe I wouldn't have such a problem getting my parents to let me go to the college I want if they hadn't just spent their last year--yes, year--throwing cash into this sinkhole of a skin unit. No wonder they want me to take the crappy party school's free-ride offer.
So if this doesn't work, they doctor-people're talking about just letting them stay, because cutting them off would be another option, but they say that's not such a good idea. Great. So a year of this crap, and I end up worse at the end?
::sighs:: Maybe it's just as well I don't have a boyfriend. Nobody wants to hold diseased hands.
Gah.

St. Patrick's day was fun, though not for particularly Irish reasons. ::shrug:: Leo Club was a good time, as was today's MasterMinds meet, though I hated leaving 'Nanda, who'd come to visit...got myself 20 points, though, giving me a total of 35 for the two and a half meets I've been in; were I to have been in every meet this season, I'dve ended up, projectively (is that a word?), at slightly over 70 points, which would likely have put me on the website for one of the top scorers in the division, albeit near the bottom of the list. Pity that I don't have next year to get on it. Ah, well. Will look next year for Nate and Paul and Jayj (though the latter didn't come today).
Doing intelligence unit in AP psych; should be cool.
Gah, prom shopping this weekend or something. ::shudders:: Dresses and high heels, yech. ...But I'll only have to wear it for one night (not counting all the times my mom will make me put it on for relatives, etc.), so whatever.
Quote of the day, via MasterMinds: "I don't know--maybe he's a beekeeper!"

Mm. Am tired.
Went to Lily's last night to see her in her school's play, like I said last entry. They did Godspell, storyline of which was kind of odd in some ways, but very cool in others, and then the cast and her brother and I went out to Denny's, which was crowded and noisy, but amusing.
Am seeing some figure skating tonight, 'cause one of my mom's friends' sisters works for a radio station and had these free tickets nobody was using, so we're using them. Kurt Browning coolness from the tenth row, hurrah! ...It's Zinni who'll probably be the most excited about that--wish I could bring you...::saddish frown::
So yeah, plan on getting back lateish and totally ignoring my stats homework yet again so I can get online. Fun, fun.
Will take a nap until I have to leave.

Hurrah for days off of school!
Went to this coffee-shop thing with 'Nanda and Daf last night. Was very fun--discovered that almond Italian sodas don't even need half-and-half 'cause they're so good plain; pulled another Pippin-like act when I sprayed my drink halfway across the counter with all the napkins and straws and stuff on it (all I did was take off the lid for a second!). Walked back to 'Nanda and Daf's track afterwards (eek, was cold!), singing "Trash, Trampoline, and the Party Girl" with them in honor of the birthday of U2's Adam Clayton. Daf went back to her house; I went to 'Nanda's, and we hung round in her room and went online a bit and stuff.
I see Lily's play tonight and get to go with the cast afterward to Denny's! Hurrah! Was going to be less fun if we'd gone tomorrow, 'cause I couldn't have seen Lily afterward, so I'm glad it's this way after all.
MasterMinds meet on Tuesday--oh, wait, that means I miss SFE! Dang...oh, well. If it gets me out of Envirothon studying, that's at least something...*g*
Hm, Leo Club on St. Patrick's Day. That ought to be interesting.
Stats needs to go away.
Happy Pi Day, all (*g* to Bethie and Nate)!

Well, it's time for today's Instance of Blatant Peregrinism. *g*
Was walking outside with Erik to the late buses after school today, talking about whatever it was we were talking about. No one else was out there, 'cept the buses just beginning to arrive, and it was kind of nice out, and the snow's melted off the inner grass part by the doors to the junior high bus loop, but about four inches of ice remained. Aneya and I had been sliding--slowly--on it yesterday, so I thought I'd have some fun again today, but a little faster this time. So (to switch to the present tense) I take off at a semi-run, jump a bit onto the ice, and slide across it--
--for about half a second, after which point I lose my balance completely (about the time Erik's warning me that maybe this isn't such a good idea) and fall backwards, landing with an audible smack on my hands, elbows, and backside. I'm only down for a second, 'cause the buses are pulling in and I feel like all of the drivers must have seen my random act of idiocy (though I don't think now that any of them did), so my first cry is, "I'm fine!" (to no one in particular), and I get up. I'm laughing outright, though I can feel the grit from the top of the ice ground into my palms. Poor Erik's standing there, trying a) to figure out if I've hit my head, and b) trying desperately not to laugh, and not quite succeeding (I didn't care; it was very funny).
So yeah, checked myself over when I got home, and I've got--well, they're not really scratches; they're assorted shiny red patches where a layer of skin got grated off--have several of those on my left hand, arranged in rather a cat-scratch style; one on my right hand; and one on my right arm. Have a bruise on my right elbow, and various red spots elsewhere, the kind you get when you've been slapped, as my skin basically was when it met the ice. Have dirt on the back of my coat and the back of my jeans as well.
::laughs:: Was very Pippin, all in all, and after so long without such an incident, it was probably high time for one. Feel almost as though a small part of me has been restored.

Yeah. Totally did not do anything productive yet, 'cept go to the library, and then to K-Mart to get my pics developed and get a pair of jeans. The latter was definitely interesting, as I found exactly one pair of standard blue jeans that was my size, and it took me about twenty minutes to do so. I mean, c'mon. I am average height and weight, more or less. A little above average in each, but basically proportional. Why are all the jeans in my waist size either "petite" (a little too short) or "long" (far too much so)? Why is there only one pair of "average"?
...Right, obvious answer: because it's K-Mart. ...But it's less evil than Wal-Mart, and no other stores I know sell jeans that are plain (I dislike, at least on me, all forms of low-rise, flares, raised metal dots arranged in patterns, glitter, and belts with metal rings, plus most forms of colored stitching).
But I have internet upstairs now, on my own computer. It's dial-up, but I don't care: this means I can stay up late on AIM. *g* Well, I do that already, but it means I won't have to risk my dad giving me disapproving looks as I come up late from the basement.
So, yeah, should be even more sleep-deprived in coming weeks. *g* Should be fun.

Showed Ethan Frome in 12 Seconds to Mr. K today. Was absolutely brill. He about fell over laughing. Which I never really see out of him, 'cause he's so deadpan, so it was all the funnier.
This's my only weekend in March at home, so it's nice that I get to spend it brother-less. ...Another curling bonspiel on his part, so I get to monopolize the computer. *g*
Wish I could spend it doing nothing, but unfortunately, that's not the way my schedule works. *g* Have newspaper articles to do (hm, note to self: must call Mr. W about swimming...), should do English of some sort, considering I've got three projects going on...
But would also like to watch (and tape) some M*A*S*H, do some reading, and go to the hockey game. Hm.
La. Stuff.

Today's happy links, which Aneya, Melly, Chris and I amused ourselves with during free time in English:
Googlism - I can't believe I hadn't seen this until today. It's pretty funny. (Note: when you enter in the search term, you'll have to scroll past the advertisements.)
Chicken to Ride - See the rest of this site at your own risk--it is not anywhere near G or even PG--but this is funny and clean. Enjoy.
Crazy for Cows Concentration Game - This is a game to play when you're so bored it's making you (especially) weird. The card game Memory, with cows as the pictures. (Thanks to davebarry.blogspot.com for this one...)
Wonderful World of Natron - This has been my favorite website for a couple of weeks now. If you go, you must see the brilliant and hysterical "Ethan Frome in 12 Seconds". Also of note: "Ozark Bunny", "Boom Boom Dollar", and (if you understand it) "Churchville-Chili Teacher Dance Marathon".
There're more sites we looked at, but that's about it for now.

I'm sorry about your Brian, 'Nanda. :(
School was very decent today, much better than the sleep-deprived mess that was parts of yesterday. Jayj came to MasterMinds 'cause he wanted to join, and he and I proceeded to totally school Bethie and Nate, who made up the other team. This was very unexpected, and therefore amused me greatly.
Erik'n'I're going to prom. So...yeah. ::shrugs a bit sheepishly:: I'm not sure what else to say...
...Mm. Am a bit tired. But I want to stay online a little longer. So I probably will.

Mm. Zinni's point about us all not updating is a valid one. Sadly, I have little time to say anything, and little that can really make the blog at this point.
I guess I'm most likely going to prom, though--with Erik. Not that my parents know this yet. Mainly 'cause that leads to the question, are you guys going out?, and that's a question that Erik and I have to figure out for ourselves first.
However, as everybody who reads this blog more or less knows about that, it's safe to put here. *g* ('Cept you, Melly, if you ever see this. No telling anybody this either, 'kyay?)
Just...I haven't actually technically asked him to prom yet. *g* 'Cause I hate the idea of prom...and it's not like he's fond of it, per se, but I'll go with him, and he with me...
...and, I don't know, neither of us were planning on going before, so it's kind of an odd situation. I can't wait round for him to ask me--I'm the senior, he's the junior; it's my prom--so I have to pull a random Sadie Hawkins (::thinks of Scratch the Surface singing "Sadie Hawkins Dance", giggles::), which I really am not good at doing.
But whatever. That's quite enough from me, considering I don't actually know anything at the moment.
